CABHC Recovery House Scholarship Program Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
When planning to refer an individual to CABHC to determine if they are eligible to receive supportive housing assistance (Recovery House scholarship or scholarship), please consider the following:
- What county is the applicant’s home county (county of origin)? The scholarship is open to individuals who are an established resident of Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon or Perry County for at least two (2) months, NOT including their time spent in treatment or incarceration. Having their home address/county changed while in an IP facility or listing the facility’s county on the application does not meet the residency requirement.
- What is the applicant’s Medical Assistance history? This Program seeks to primarily assist Medicaid (MA) eligible individuals enrolled in the HealthChoices Program (CBHNP). We recognize that many individuals tend to lose and regain their MA eligibility rather frequently; therefore, an applicant does not need to be open/active/eligible for Medicaid at the time they are referred. An applicant does need to have a history of enrollment in the Medicaid program, however. Of special note, there are various categories of assistance (i.e. food stamps) that, by themselves, do not meet the MA eligibility requirement.
- Where is the applicant currently placed? Referrals will only be accepted from Inpatient treatment facilities (Rehab or Halfway House) or the applicant’s home county Drug & Alcohol Commission through a case manager (when applicable). Though required to sign the application, applicants cannot refer themselves for a Recovery House scholarship.
- What happens if an applicant transitions to a different treatment facility instead of going directly to the recovery house? If the applicant is approved for a Recovery House scholarship but ends up going to a different treatment facility first, the new treatment facility is responsible for submitting a new scholarship application to CABHC. This is to ensure the applicant remained in an environment that still qualifies them for a scholarship (Rehab or Halfway House).
- What happens if an applicant is approved and accepted at one recovery house but ends up going to a different CABHC approved recovery house? The referring facility should contact LeeAnn Edelman, D&A Specialist, CABHC to inform of the change in recovery house as soon as it is known. As long as the new house participates in the scholarship Program, the approval will still be honored. See the directory of participating recovery houses (available on CABHC’s website) for a complete list of houses involved in this Program.
- Can an applicant receive a scholarship more than one time? No. The scholarships are issued only once per recipient.
- Can scholarship money be transferred between recovery houses? No. Should an individual leave the recovery house prior to the end of the scholarship duration (2 months), they forfeit the remaining funds.
